Protecting Yourself and Your Family

Unfortunately, drought is one of those natural occurrences that’s hard to be effective against. Community strategies might eventually include water restrictions and the use of alternative water sources, such as desalinization, recycling, drilling, and regulated planting of selective crops. Most of these strategies require the focus and cooperation of individuals, and that’s very difficult to get. Americans have a difficult time letting go of their precious lawns and landscapes.

Unless you’ve had the foresight, space, and patience to store enormous quantities of water, there’s little you can do about drought except being conscientious about your water use.

Adding some cash and goods to your disaster supply kit would probably be just as or more effective than trying to store and maintain huge tanks of emergency water. As drought progresses those who have the cash or goods to barter for water will get what they need. Those who don’t won’t.
